This work tells the recounts and testimonies of some of the victims of Lawrence Gerard Nassar, a convicted sex offender and former doctor for the U.S women's national gymnastics team. Nassar took advantage of his position to get access to hundreds of girls and female athletes whom he sexually abused for over 18 years during "routine" appointments. Many of the victims were minors, sometimes abused with their parents in the room.

Survivors of rape and abuse usually face extremely difficult and painful emotions. Shame, self-blame, depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, self-esteem issues, sexual dysfunction, addiction, self-injury, borderline personality disorder, and a propensity to re-victimization in adulthood are some of the many distressing and traumatic effects that victims can experience. Sexual abuse also increases the risk factor for attempting suicide.

Understanding the impact of abuse can help us to raise awareness, spot red flags, and help vulnerable individuals. As society, we have the duty to report incidents of sexual exploitation and abuse. We need to speak out against all forms of violence, including unwanted contact, inappropriate and coercive behaviors, insinuations, harassment, psychological violence, and molestation.
